For more than 20 years, terre des hommes Germany has not directly operated its own projects in Southeast Asia, but rather works with local partner organisations who design and implement their own projects. These partner organisations include non-governmental organisations (NGOs), people organisations (POs) or, in some instances, socially concerned government agencies. These organisations, together with other representatives of social movements and committed academics, form the partner network of terre des hommes.
Currently, there are more than 100 partner organisations and individuals in Southeast Asia.
Together, these partners set priorities for national and regional areas of concern which are the most urgent for support from terre des hommes Germany. These areas of concern - contained in a document called “Towards a TDH Policy Framework in Southeast Asia" are updated through continuous dialogue in partner conferences at national as well as regional levels. The most recent regional partner meeting was held on November 11-14, 2001 in Mae Sot, Thailand and the second regional partners meeting is held on September 22-28, 2003 in Cambodia. The results of regional partner meetings culminate in International Partner Conferences for partners from all over the world, along with members of terre des hommes Germany. The most recent international conference was held in November, 1999 in Bonn, Germany.
